Homeschool Schools? by Beverley Paine, Oct 2021 The short answer is no, you can't have a school that includes ALL of the benefits of homeschooling. It isn't possible. A school will always be a compromise. Aim for developing a co-operative instead with a team of like-minded people with a sustainable succession plan firmly embedded into the structure of the cooperative.
Consider this - if a small group of people put the same energy, effort and cost into developing a local home educating group that would be required for starting a school, how awesome would that group be? Don't underestimate the energy sucking power of bureaucratic processes, both external and internal, when creating an educational institution. The most wonderful thing about home education I have discovered over the years is that it isn't a school. There is something magical about taking back responsibility for our own education, how empowering and enlightening that is and can be. The further we get away from the concept of school the more expansive and diverse and amazing the practice of home education becomes. Build on that. Aim for something that isn't a school at all. |
