My seven year old loves school but I want to homeschool, should we?

If you, as a parent, decided that this was the year you were going to take off and do a lap around Australia, you probably wouldn't be asking this question. You'd simply do it.
We hold so much power over our kids lives, what they do and how they do it. They live their lives cocooned within our desires and values, shaped by the things we want and need to do in our lives. That's just how it is, that's life. And it's okay.
I believe we can improve on that though by including our children in the the conversations about what we want from life, how we're going to achieve our goals, what's important to us, what we value and why, how we (as adults) area learning all the time. We can check in with them about what's important to them, what they're learning, take an interest in their lives. For me this is friendship. Sure, we're still parents, still the ones with the responsibility, but we're relating with our kids in a different way, consulting with them, taking their views and opinions on board, accommodating for their needs and wants, in the same way we would our best friend, respectfully while maintaining a clear sense of who we are and what we need (our personal boundaries).
If you really truly want a homeschooling life, go for it. It's a bit like if you really truly want to live a homesteading life, do the whole tree change thing, go for that. Or if you want to pursue a career as a musician, or a heart surgeon. These decisions affect our children's lives but when we're strongly pulled to do something for us, in our lives, we head in that direction. Our kids get carried along in the flow - and if we're talking with them openly and honestly and respectfully - they'll provide the same kind of support for your choices as you do theirs.
